Nestled on the serene Wadmalaw Island, just a short drive from Charleston, South Carolina, the Charleston Tea Garden stands as a unique gem in American agriculture. Spanning 127 acres, it's the only large-scale tea plantation in North America, cultivating the Camellia sinensis plant to produce the renowned American Classic Tea.

🌱 A Legacy Rooted in History
The journey of tea cultivation in South Carolina dates back to the late 1700s when French botanist André Michaux introduced the Camellia sinensis plant to the region. However, it wasn't until the 1960s that the Lipton Tea Company established a research facility on Wadmalaw Island, aiming to cultivate tea domestically. In 1987, Mack Fleming and William "Bill" Hall transformed this research site into a working tea garden, laying the foundation for what we now know as the Charleston Tea Garden.
In 2003, the Bigelow Tea Company acquired the garden, partnering with Bill Hall to further develop and promote American-grown tea. This collaboration has ensured the garden's growth and its place in the hearts of tea enthusiasts nationwide.
